A HOUSE, NOT ONLY A HEADQUARTERS

Heritage, hospitality and industry can strengthen one another.

PWA Palácio is a long-term institutional vision: recover a Portuguese property with character and memory, bring it back to life and make it a lasting home for the Association, sectoral memory, learning, hospitality and cultural exchange.

01

Heritage

Restore architecture and traditional crafts, preserve memory and return dignity to the property.

02

Institution

Give Portuguese whisky a permanent home and a national voice.

03

Hospitality

Create a welcoming cultural and social destination for local people and visitors.

04

Industry

Support producers, learning, investment, international exchange and the development of distilleries.

05

Permanence

Build the income and programme needed to sustain the property and institution over time.

06

Territory

Create opportunity through employment, tourism and activity in Alpiarça and the Ribatejo.

A PRINCIPLE FOR THE PROPERTY

Preserve first. Adapt with care.

The vision begins with understanding the buildings: their history, materials and condition. Conservation, skilled craft and respect for the original character should guide each decision. Contemporary comfort, access and safety should be integrated with care, without turning heritage into a copy of modern luxury.

THE PORTUGUESE WHISKY HOUSE

Discovery, tasting and learning.

A living place to discover the people and regions developing whisky in Portugal. Member whiskies, guided tastings, masterclasses, launches, an archive and conversations with producers can bring the category to life for visitors and the wider trade.

HOSPITALITY FOR THE REGION

A house for people who live nearby.

The concept imagines a welcoming place through the day and into the evening: coffee, tea, pastry, a garden, small plates, cocktails, whisky and thoughtful cultural occasions. The ambition is to belong to Alpiarça, Santarém and the wider region as well as to welcome visitors.

THE GREAT ADEGAS

Large spaces for shared occasions.

The scale and character of the former adegas can support gatherings, professional meetings, tastings, dinners, conferences, launches and cultural programming. Keeping larger events in these spaces and the gardens could help protect the quieter institutional rooms of the Palacete. Any capacity and use would depend on surveys, design, safety and licensing.

ALPIARÇA AND THE RIBATEJO

A house rooted in its place.

Agriculture, wine, landscape, hospitality, craft and the work of the land already shape this region. PWA Palácio imagines bringing that local identity into conversation with a contemporary Portuguese whisky industry, creating reasons to visit, stay, learn and return.

Activity in service of permanence.

The brochure explores hospitality, events, retail, tastings and cultural programming as possible ways to support conservation, a skilled team and PWA's long-term work. These are concepts for assessment, not approved operating or financial commitments.
